This is a page about *Tainted* Andromeda. The page about the regular version of this character can be found here.
Tainted Andromeda is a character that comes with the Andromeda Mod for the game Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and requires all DLCs to work. The mod is uploaded to the game's Steam Workshop.
Tainted Andromeda can't shoot tears themselves. Instead, the Black Hole in the very center of the room shoots tears which curve toward Tainted Andromeda's position due to the passive My Reflection effect the character has. Tainted Andromeda also has a passive Analog Stick effect, which allows it to shoot in all directions.
Tainted Andromeda cannot find any item pedestal naturally (excluding ones spawned from beggars, machines, rocks, etc). Instead, Tainted Andromeda has to use its 12 charge pocket active Singularity, which allows it to spawn item pedestals from the current room's pool anywhere.
Singularity charges only by collecting pickups or using consumables. In addition, defeating the floor's boss instantly adds 12 charges to this active.
Singularity can also be overcharged by default.
The amount of charges added to Singularity depends on the pickup, as seen in the table below:

Batteries don't charge Singularity!
Modded pickups that aren't supported add 1 charge by default. Modded hearts are excluded from this. |
Some rooms with very strong pools have some restrictions:
- Secret Room/Super Secret Room - The first Singularity use in here will spawn a secret room item guaranteed, but then each use will cut the chance of spawning an item by half, so the first use it's 100%, then 50%, then 25%, then 12,5%, etc. Missing this chance will spawn a Lemegeton wisp of a secret room item instead.
- Planetarium - Planetariums function exactly the same as Secret Rooms.
- Devil Room/Angel Room - The door to these rooms will always disappear after leaving, even if you have an item that causes them to persist.
Abandoned Planetariums appear in place of Treasure rooms for Tainted Andromeda. They always contain a single pickup, sack, or chest. Using Singularity in here has a decreasing chance to spawn items from the Abandoned Planetarium pool. This is also the only way Tainted Andromeda can find zodiac items.
Since Tainted Andromeda can't find natural pedestals, Boss Challenge rooms will contain 3 random chests instead, and Crawlspace will contain 1 random chest in place of each item.
After Depths, Singularity will only be able to spawn items in certain special rooms. Using it anywhere else will instead spawn a random pickup or chest and has only a 10% chance to spawn an item from a random pool.
Tainted Andromeda also has a passive Marbles effect, which allows it to gulp any held trinkets with a 5% chance when taking damage. Picking up Marbles increases the chance up to 10%. Gulping trinkets also adds an additional charge to Singularity.
Tainted Andromeda can acquire the Spode Transformation (even if it's not unlocked) by picking up 4 astrological sign items.
Pickups on the ground are slowly pulled in towards where Tainted Andromeda is standing. This can be toggled on or off by pressing "G" while playing as the character.
Strategy[]
- Similar to regular Andromeda, Tainted Andromeda's shooting mechanic takes time and practice to get used to and learn how tears will curve towards you. Though it's worth noticing that if you want to shoot an enemy that's far from the Black Hole but is directly standing to the sides of it (including diagonal), you can stand closer and in the line between you and enemy, so the Black Hole will shoot straight in this direction. It's also worth noticing that the farther you stay from the Black Hole, the further it shoots, since tears curve into your direction.
- It's a good idea to min-max floors to their fullest to get as many items as possible. This can be done by:
- Buying pickups in the shop.
- Playing machines and beggars.
- Not collecting pickups if you have a full overcharge to not waste charges.
- Using all pills ands cards. Even if it will not give anything or even lower stats, you will have an additional charge for potential items.
- 0 - The Fool? is of extremely high value on Tainted Andromeda. Not only because it can spawn items as usual, but also because it will drop your pickups which you can pick up again for additional charges and because spawned items would also give charges back because their purpose is to give pickups.
- It's recommended to enter the boss room with a full charge to potentially get 2 items in a Devil Room or Angel Room.
Synergies[]
- Birthright: All enemies are now sucked in the Black Hole. Additionally, each tear fired creates an additional tear that starts far away and gets pulled into the Black Hole. These additional tears have your tear effects and damage.
- Tainted Andromeda's
Singularity has several synergies:
- PHD - All positive pills give double the amount of charge.
- False PHD - All negative pills give double the amount of charge.
- Tarot Cloth - All tarot cards that have doubled effect give an additional charge.
- More Options - Using
Singularity in rooms with the
Treasure Room pool (Normal Rooms, Treasure Room, Sacrifice Room, etc) spawn an additional item. Only one can be taken.
- There's Options - Using
Singularity in a Boss Room spawns an additional item. Only one can be taken.
- Damocles - Every
Singularity use spawns an additional item. Both can be taken.
- Car Battery - Every
Singularity use spawns an additional item. Both can be taken (Tainted Andromeda cannot find this item).
- Golden Horseshoe - Similar to More Options, using
Singularity in rooms with the
Treasure Room pool (Normal Rooms, Treasure Room, Sacrifice Room, etc) has a chance spawn an additional item. Only one can be taken.
- Devil's Crown - Using
Singularity in a
Treasure Room spawns a Devil Room item that costs HP.
- Apple of Sodom - Every red heart turned into spiders adds charges to
Singularity, even if the character can't have red health.
- Counterfeit Penny - Every coin picked up has a chance to add an additional charge to
Singularity.
- Similar to Andromeda's Tech X synergy, picking up Tech X will make every fired tear a big laser ring without charging.
- Picking up Mom's Knife will make all fired tears become knives that deal tick damage.
- Lasers such as Brimstone are fired in two directions from the Black Hole and is always aimed where you're standing.
- Maw of the Void is highly valuable for Tainted Andromeda, since the fired Maw ring will always be around you, making damaging enemies easier.

Trivia[]
- When a massive star dies, it collapses onto itself and becomes a black hole.
- Supermassive black holes are also present at the center of most galaxies.
- Even though nothing can escape a black hole's gravitational pull, Tainted Andromeda has the ability to eject light and matter from them.
- Tainted Andromeda absorbs light from all spectrum, which causes almost all objects touching it be completely blacked out.
